Holly Tree House is a large country house at Symonds Yat, in the Wye Valley on the Herefordshire side of the EnglishWelsh borders, close to the Forest of Dean. The setting is rural and secluded, with views across the valley and the River Wye towards Monmouth, Symonds Yat and Ross-on-Wye. With nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms, several of them en suite, the house sleeps between 9 and 22 people, making it suited to extended families and groups of friends travelling together. Children are welcome, and up to three dogs may come along. The property holds a Visit England assessment, and short breaks of two nights or more are possible, with flexible arrival days.
Sleeping arrangements comprise six double beds, eight singles, two bunk beds, two Z-beds and two cots, with bed linen and towels provided, along with a high chair. There are two lounges, so larger parties can spread out, and an open fire alongside the central heating. The dining room seats 22 around one table, and the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and coffee maker; a washing machine and tumble dryer are also available. A games room holds a pool table and table football, while TV with Sky and wifi are provided throughout. Outside there is a garden and patio with a barbecue and space to eat in the open air, and an outdoor hot tub. Ample private parking is available on site. Original features remain in the house, and at Christmas it is decorated with a tree and trimmings.
The house works well for family gatherings, milestone birthdays and hen parties, and for groups wanting an active break. Walking, hiking and nature trails start nearby, with Offa's Dyke Path and the wider Wye Valley within reach, along with canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, river and fly fishing, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, abseiling, caving, clay pigeon shooting, paintballing and golf. Country inns serving food lie within a short walk, and more pubs and restaurants, some dog-friendly, are found in the nearby town within five miles. Monmouth is around five miles away, and Hereford provides the nearest railway station and airport connections. Days out include Goodrich Castle, Eastnor Castle, Hereford Cathedral, the Museum of Cider in Hereford and the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo.
