Borland Farmhouse is a traditional red sandstone house dating from the early 1800s, two miles south of Cumnock in Ayrshire, sleeping eight in four bedrooms with a Gold award. It sits in a rural setting with views over fields, farmland, garden and lake, but it is not remote: the town is two miles off and New Cumnock station three. The house keeps its original features and period character, and the combination of a proper old farmhouse with a games room, a hot tub and fishing two minutes' walk away makes it a strong choice for a family gathering or a group of friends. There are no pets at this property, which is also described as allergy friendly.
Accommodation comprises three super king size bedrooms and one smaller twin room, with an upstairs bathroom containing both a walk in shower and a bath, and a downstairs shower room with a rainfall shower. Downstairs there is a sitting room and a separate TV room, so a party can split up in the evening, and a large dining kitchen seating eight which is where most of the day happens. The games room has a pool table and a drinks station, along with board games, card games and a card table. A wood burning stove, wifi, a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, wine chiller, kettle, toaster, washing machine and tumble dryer are all provided, with towels, bed linen, a cot, a high chair and a boot room for muddy outdoor gear.
Outside are enclosed gardens with furniture and a seating area holding a seven person hot tub, well placed for the end of a day out. There is a great deal of parking, with free private space for up to fifteen cars, which removes any difficulty when a group arrives separately. Fishing lakes are on site, two minutes' walk from the door, and there are small farm animals to meet. The house is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas, short breaks are available all year round, and stag, hen and birthday groups are accepted.
Restaurants, pubs and cafes are within five miles, with a shop and supermarket the same distance. This part of Ayrshire is Burns country, and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Alloway Auld Kirk and the Burns Monument and Gardens are all within easy reach, along with Dumfries House near Cumnock. The Ayrshire coast gives beaches at Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Irvine, Girvan and Saltcoats, and golfers have Royal Troon, Prestwick, Turnberry and Auchenharvie within striking distance. Culzean Castle and Country Park, Dean Castle, Blairquhan Castle, Dundonald Castle, Eglinton Country Park, the Scottish Maritime Museum, Heads of Ayr Farm Park and Loch Doon all make good days out, and Ayr Racecourse hosts the Scottish Grand National. Coarse, fly and river fishing, angling, walking, hiking, horse riding, pony trekking, swimming, bird watching and wildlife watching are all available nearby.
