Craig Cottage is a character holiday cottage in a rural, secluded setting outside Banff, on the Moray Firth coast of Aberdeenshire in north-east Scotland. Part of the building was originally put up as a folly associated with nearby Duff House, which gives it an unusual outline, and it stands surrounded by woodland and countryside with a river running through the grounds. The approach is along a private single-track road, roughly a mile from the turning off the A97, and walkers and wildlife use the same route, so slow driving is advised. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms, with sleeping for between three and six guests. Children are welcome, and up to three dogs may come too.
Inside, the sitting room has a wood-burning stove, a TV with Sky and digital channels, and wifi throughout. The kitchen is well equipped, with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee maker and washing machine, and the dining table seats six. One bathroom has a power shower; central heating runs throughout, and bed linen and towels are provided, along with a welcome pack on arrival. A cot and high chair are available for younger guests. Outdoors, a sheltered, south-facing patio looks over the woods and open country and has garden furniture and a barbecue, with an enclosed garden beyond. A separate drying room takes care of wet coats, rods, clubs and boots, and there is private parking.
The cottage suits anglers, walkers and families, and those travelling with dogs who want space on the doorstep. Fishing is a particular draw, with river, fly and sea fishing in the area, while golf, tennis, squash, bird watching, nature walks and horse riding lessons are all within reach, the latter within about half an hour's drive. A riverside and woodland walk leads to Duff House and on towards the Bridge of Alvah. The coast offers Banff Links and Inverboyndie beaches, the Aberdeenshire Coastal Trail, Macduff Marine Aquarium, the Macduff shipyards and distillery, Findlater Castle and Portsoy ice cream. A pub is close by and supermarkets lie within five miles. Huntly has the nearest railway station, and Aberdeen is around 46 miles away.
