Weiroch Lodge is an eighteenth-century mill conversion in private grounds at Ballindalloch, in the Spey Valley between Grantown-on-Spey and Elgin, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. It sleeps six in three bedrooms, every one en-suite, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award and takes up to two dogs by prior arrangement. It sits next to the River Spey and adjoins eight hundred acres of woodland walking, yet is only two minutes from the A95.
The interior is light-filled and inviting. The sitting room has a vaulted ceiling, plush sofas and a wood-burning stove, and a sunroom beside it is the place for a morning coffee with the panoramic view. The spacious kitchen and dining area is fully equipped with a six-burner gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge, freezer and coffee maker, and there is a downstairs cloakroom.
The ground-floor bedroom has a flexible layout as a super-king or twin beds with an en-suite bathroom. Upstairs are a second en-suite bedroom on the same arrangement, and a double with a luxurious five-foot bed and an en-suite shower room, with a fold-out bed available for a twin configuration. Complimentary wifi runs throughout. Weekly stays typically run Sunday to Sunday with flexibility off-peak, children under ten are welcome by prior arrangement, and the owners' home is about a hundred yards away with a catering service available on request for an extra charge.
Outside is a spacious patio and a large enclosed garden for eating outside and taking in the surroundings. Good walks start at the door, with trails to the River Spey and the nearby forests, including the Speyside Way, and the site is dark-sky friendly with a birdwatching area; deer, hares, red squirrels, buzzards and other birds of prey are all regular. The area is famous for salmon fishing on the Spey, historic castles and a remarkable concentration of whisky distilleries. Aviemore has the nearest station, the Cairngorms, Rothiemurchus, the RSPB Loch Garten Osprey Centre, the Strathspey Steam Railway, the Highland Wildlife Park, Cawdor Castle, Fort George and Loch Ness are all within reach, and Aberdeen is sixty-two miles.
