About Beaford Country House
Beaford House is a large country house set above the valley of the River Torridge in the Devon countryside, near Great Torrington. It sleeps twenty-three in nine elegantly decorated en-suite bedrooms with nine bathrooms, holds a Gold award and takes three dogs. The house holds a civil wedding licence, and the facilities are built for a serious gathering: an outdoor heated swimming pool, a hot tub and a barbecue hut that seats twenty-four.
The large drawing room, with its original wood-panelled fireplace, is the natural place to gather the party, and a smaller snug and library gives the children somewhere of their own or anyone else a quiet read. The dining room has plenty of space for everyone at one table and French doors onto a large veranda, which is where meals go on a fine day. The kitchen is newly fitted with a large Aga, a six-burner gas oven, a commercial dishwasher and a further scullery with fridge and freezer, so cooking for twenty-three is a realistic proposition. There is also a games room with a pool table, table tennis and table football, Sky television, and a newly refurbished function suite seating twenty to a hundred and twenty which can be hired separately.
One bedroom has a four-poster. A cot, welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided.
Outside there are stunning gardens with a play area, large lawns, a veranda, a balcony, a patio, sun loungers, a fire pit, the barbecue lodge, the outdoor heated pool open from Whitsun to September and the hot tub, along with small farm animals to meet, a birdwatching area and ample private parking. The site is dark-sky friendly.
A pub is a short walk away, with plenty more good country pubs and village inns nearby. Barnstaple is fourteen miles and Eggesford has the nearest station. The North Devon coast, Westward Ho!, the Big Sheep, the Milky Way Adventure Park and Dartmoor National Park are all within reach, with coarse and river fishing, coasteering, horse riding and pony trekking locally. The owners are happy to point you towards extras for a wedding or a party, including clay pigeon shooting, paintballing and in-house spa days, and they take stag and hen groups, birthdays and weddings.
