Duvale Barn is a very large group property near Tiverton in Mid Devon, set in its own valley with sixteen bedrooms and twelve bathrooms and accommodation for up to forty two guests. Two additional small bunk rooms can be added at further cost, taking the maximum to forty six. It is rated four stars with a Gold award, and the pitch is honest: spacious, comfortable, good quality accommodation at a sensible price for a group that needs to be under one roof. The bedrooms are a mixture of family rooms and twins, and the dining arrangement seats everybody at once, which is rarer than it sounds at this scale.
The house is arranged around four kitchens, two large lounges each with Sky TV, and two further smaller lounges, so a party of forty can spread out into smaller groups and still come together for meals. There is a games room with a pool table and table tennis, and a wood burning stove for the colder months. Practicalities are covered with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, kettle and toaster, and wifi runs through the property. Bed linen is provided. Exposed beams and traditional finishes give the interior its character, and the whole place is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas, which is when a house like this comes into its own.
Outside there is a beautiful enclosed garden with a summer house area, a patio with garden furniture, a barbecue and a hot tub, all looking out over the valley, fields, woodland and garden. The location is dark sky friendly, so the evenings are properly dark and the stars worth a look. Free parking is available for up to fifteen cars, with an electric car charging point on site. Up to three dogs are welcome by arrangement, and a cot and high chair can be provided. Stag, hen, birthday and corporate groups and weddings are all accepted, and short breaks are available all year round.
The setting is rural Devon, roughly six miles from Tiverton, with a pub within a mile and further restaurants, pubs and cafes within ten miles. Exeter is nineteen miles away and Tiverton Parkway, fourteen miles off, puts London within reach by train. Exmoor National Park is close for walking, riding and wildlife, and the coast is around forty minutes' drive, with Exmouth, Dawlish Warren and Saunton Sands among the beaches. Days out include Exeter Cathedral, Killerton, Exmoor Zoo, Paignton Zoo, Crealy Theme Park and Diggerland Devon. Local activities run from fly, coarse and river fishing to clay pigeon shooting, abseiling, boating, paddle boarding, horse riding, pony trekking, cycling, golf and tennis. For a large gathering that wants Devon countryside, space to make noise in and no need to split across several houses, this is a practical answer.
