Holly Lodge is a four bedroom log cabin at Woodcombe Lodges just outside Minehead in Somerset, sleeping up to ten and looking out across the valley towards Exmoor. It is rated four stars with a Gold award, and the position is the making of it: the lodge stands fifty metres from its nearest neighbour, which gives it real privacy, and it has not one but two verandas from which to take in the countryside and sea views. The site covers three acres of shared gardens on a hillside above the town, close enough to walk into Minehead in about twenty minutes yet far enough out to feel properly rural.
The living space is a large open plan room divided into two distinct areas. One is a sitting room with comfortable sofas, an armchair, a flatscreen television and the best of the country views, with double doors opening onto a veranda. The other holds the kitchen and a dining area seating twelve, again with doors out to a veranda. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, washing machine and tumble dryer. Wifi and digital television are provided, along with bed linen and a welcome pack. The four bedrooms comprise a king size room with an en suite bathroom, a second king size room, a twin room fitted with one adjustable electric bed, for which an extra charge applies, and a room with bunk beds plus a single bed with a pull out single beneath it.
Accessibility has been taken seriously here. The lodge is rated M2, with a ramp at the side of the property, level access throughout the ground floor and all bedrooms and bathrooms on one level. There is an accessible family bathroom with grab rails, basin, WC and a shower with a shower chair, and a separate accessible wet room with grab rails and a wheeled shower chair. Disabled access parking is provided, with room for four cars adjacent to the lodge. Shared facilities on site include a games room with table tennis, a snooker table and table football, a children's play area with swings, and crazy golf. Up to two dogs are welcome by arrangement, with dog friendly walks within a fifteen minute walk and a dog friendly pub within thirty minutes. Children are welcome, with a cot and high chair available.
Minehead is a seaside town with a steam railway on the edge of Exmoor, and its beach, pubs and shops are around twenty minutes away on foot, a mile from the lodge. Exmoor National Park begins on the doorstep, with Dunster Castle nearby and the Quantock Hills a short drive off; the South West Coast Path runs along this stretch of shoreline. Local activities are plentiful: walking and hiking, cycling and mountain biking, horse riding, golf, tennis, swimming, sailing, sea and river fishing, fly fishing, coasteering, paddle boarding, rockpooling and beachcombing. Taunton, twenty five miles away, is the nearest railway station. Short breaks are available in low and mid season, and with this much on site there is a fair chance of not wanting to leave at all.
Additional charges: No additional cleaning fees.
