Cherry Tree Lodge is a two bedroom log cabin at Woodcombe Lodges near Minehead, sleeping up to five on a single level and looking out over trees, garden and the countryside rising towards Exmoor. It holds a Gold award and is rated M1 for accessibility, with all accommodation on one floor. The setting is quiet and wooded, part of a family friendly site of three acres just outside Minehead and a short distance from the town's beach. The design is simple and well thought out, and the covered veranda is the feature most guests end up using most: a sheltered spot for a morning coffee, with wildlife to watch in the surrounding trees. Pets are not permitted at this lodge.
Indoors, the open plan living area is bright, lit through the opening onto the veranda, with a comfortable sofa, a television and a round dining table seating six where everyone can eat together. The kitchen is finished in wood and equipped with a cooker and hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and a full range of utensils. Wifi and digital television are provided, along with a laundry room and bed linen. The two bedrooms are a double with a king size bed and an en suite shower room, which is not itself accessible, and a twin with two single beds plus a pull down child's bunk if needed. The family bathroom is a shower wet room with a shower chair, WC and basin.
On the accessibility side, there is ramp access to the lodge and a wheelchair friendly path, level access throughout, and all bedrooms and bathrooms on the one level. The living area, double bedroom, twin bedroom and bathroom are wheelchair accessible, and the family bathroom has grab rails by both shower and toilet, a shower seat, a walk in shower and a wheeled shower chair. Disabled access parking is provided, with space for two cars adjacent to the lodge, free of charge. Outside there is a shared garden, the veranda with garden furniture and an outdoor bench. Shared site facilities include a games room with table tennis, a snooker table and table football, a children's play area with swings, and crazy golf. A cot and high chair are available.
The three acres of gardens are worth exploring in themselves, and a number of local walks start from the site and lead out into the coast and countryside. Minehead, a seaside town with a steam railway on the edge of Exmoor, has restaurants, pubs, cafes, a local shop and a supermarket within a mile, along with its beach and independent shops; a pub lies within a thirty minute walk. Exmoor National Park is on the doorstep, with Dunster Castle, Hestercombe Gardens, the Quantock Hills, Killerton, the North Devon Coast and the South West Coast Path all within range, plus Exmoor Zoo, Tropiquaria Zoo and Doniford Farm Park for family days out. Walking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, pony trekking, golf, tennis, swimming, sailing, coasteering, paddle boarding, fishing and rockpooling are all available locally. Taunton, twenty five miles away, is the nearest station; short breaks run in low and mid season.
