About Gardeners Cottage

Gardeners Cottage is a nineteenth-century stone cottage forming part of a large estate four miles from Kington, a pretty Welsh border town in one of the least spoiled corners of England. It sleeps six in three bedrooms, holds a five-star rating and takes one dog. The setting is secluded, and the position on the border puts a great deal within reach.

Downstairs there is a kitchen, a dining room, a utility, a shower room and a sitting room with an efficient log burner. The dining room comfortably seats ten if the cottage is taken together with the neighbouring Field Cottage, which makes it a practical arrangement for an extended family. Modern comforts are all present, including a television, stereo, dishwasher and washing machine.

Upstairs are two large double bedrooms, each with a king-size bed and its own basin, and a smaller twin, all sharing the bathroom. A cot and high chair are available, and towels and bed linen are provided.

Outside is a lovely secluded enclosed garden with garden chairs and a barbecue. This is excellent walking and riding country on the Welsh Borders, close to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons, with the Offa's Dyke Path nearby. There are some spectacular golf courses close at hand, and salmon and coarse fishing on the River Wye about a mile away; in winter, shooting can be arranged in advance with local estates. Herefordshire is thick with history, so the area is rich in historic towns, ancient buildings and the black-and-white villages the county is known for. Hereford, eighteen miles away, has its cathedral, home of the Mappa Mundi and the Chained Library, and Leominster has the nearest station. There are excellent inns, restaurants and shops throughout the area, with a pub in the nearby village. The cottage can be rented in conjunction with two other properties on the estate for a much larger party.
