About Cefn-nant Lodge

Cefn-Nant is a two-bedroom lodge on a working livestock farm above Llangunllo in Powys, in a valley with very little else in it. The lodge takes adults only and sleeps four, and it sits in a raised position looking down over one of the farm's trout ponds towards the hills and farmland beyond. It holds a four-star rating with a Gold award.

Both bedrooms are en-suite: a double with a double-ended bath and a twin with a large shower room. The lounge is generous for a lodge of this size, with a television, DVD player, hi-fi and Freeview satellite, and the kitchen is fully equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, larder fridge-freezer and washing machine. Everything is on one level, with a ramp up to the kitchen door, level access throughout the ground floor and a walk-in shower, though the lodge is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Outside there is a wide decked area with solid wood furniture, sun loungers, outdoor lighting and the lodge's own hot tub. It is a good spot for long summer evenings, and the site is dark-sky friendly, so the stars and the owls tend to take over once the light goes. The farm runs to 280 acres of pasture, old coppice woodland and ponds full of wildlife, with waymarked trails the owners will point you along; Glyndwr's Way runs through the farm and links up with the Offa's Dyke path. Buzzards and red kites circle overhead, and there are dragonflies and newts in the ponds.

The farm is non-smoking throughout and, as a working livestock holding, cannot take pets. A second lodge on the farm means parties of eight can book both together. Knighton is the local market town, with a supermarket, places to eat and a station on the line to Shrewsbury and Hereford, plus a farmers' market on the third Saturday of the month. Elan Valley, Montgomery Castle and the Offa's Dyke Path are all within range.
