Carp Cottage is one of three self-contained holiday cottages at Wallrudding Farm, a working farm set in large private grounds near the village of Doddington in western Lincolnshire. The 19th-century farm buildings have been converted into self-catering accommodation, and Carp Cottage sleeps between three and six people in three bedrooms: one double and two twin rooms, served by a single bathroom. The setting is rural and secluded, with Lincoln around five miles away.
Inside there is a sitting room with a television, and a kitchen and dining area with a table seating six. The kitchen has an electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer, and the cottage has central heating and wifi throughout. Bed linen and towels are provided, and a cot and high chair can be supplied for younger guests. Parking is available on site. The grounds hold mature fishing lakes a short walk from the cottages, stocked with three types of carp along with tench, golden orfe, rudd and roach; guests have exclusive fishing rights, though a rod licence is required. A large heated indoor swimming pool with changing rooms is shared by guests staying in all three cottages.
The cottage suits families and small groups of friends, particularly anglers and anyone wanting a quiet farm base with a pool on the doorstep. Children are welcome; dogs cannot be accommodated. The minimum stay is three nights, with short breaks available through the year. Doddington Hall and Gardens, with its house, grounds and coffee shop and restaurant, is about a mile away, and there is a pub nearby. Golf, walking and cycling can all be found locally. Lincoln, roughly five miles north, has its cathedral, castle, museums, shops and a good choice of places to eat, including the Cheese Society, Pyewipe and Cafe Zoot, and is also the nearest railway station. The market town of Newark lies about ten miles south, with its castle, shops and cafes. Other options within reach include Tattershall Castle, Newark Castle, Clumber Park, Chatsworth House, Sundown Adventure Land and the coast at Cleethorpes and Skegness. Local events include the Lincolnshire Show, Waddington Air Show, Lincoln Christmas Market and the Swinderby and Newark antiques fairs.
