About Roach Rest
Roach Rest is a single-storey barn conversion on Wallrudding Farm, a working farm in open countryside just outside the village of Doddington in Lincolnshire. It is one of three self-contained holiday cottages on the farm and sleeps up to two people in one twin bedroom, making it suited to a couple or two friends travelling together. As all the rooms are arranged on one level, the cottage is suitable for guests with limited mobility. The city of Lincoln, with its railway station, lies a short drive away.
Inside there is a sitting room with a TV and wifi, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer and washing machine, and a dining table for two. The twin bedroom has two single beds, and there is one bathroom. The cottage has central heating, with bed linen, towels and a welcome pack provided. Outside there is a patio with views over the lake, private grounds around the farm, and parking. Guests have the use of the farm's large heated indoor swimming pool, open daily from 9am until 8pm, and of the mature fishing lakes a short walk from the cottages. The lakes are stocked with carp, tench, rudd, roach and golden orfe; guests staying on the farm have exclusive fishing rights, and a rod licence is required. The cottage does not take children or dogs, and the minimum stay is three nights.
The setting suits couples looking for a quiet rural base with fishing and swimming on the doorstep, within reach of the Lincolnshire countryside and coast. Walking, cycling, golf, paintballing and watersports can all be found in the area, and there is a pub nearby. Doddington Hall and Gardens, with its house, grounds and caf, is close at hand, while Lincoln offers the cathedral, castle, museums, independent shops and a wide choice of places to eat, among them the Cheese Society, Pyewipe and Caf Zoot. The market town of Newark on Trent has its castle, shops and tea rooms, and Tattershall Castle, Sherwood Forest and the Lincolnshire Wolds make straightforward days out by car. Annual events include the Lincolnshire Show, Waddington Air Show, Lincoln Christmas Market and the Swinderby and Newark antiques fairs.
