About Victory cottage

Victory Cottage is a thatched two-bedroom cottage in the village of Cottesmore, about three miles from Oakham and close to Rutland Water. It sleeps four, carries a five-star rating with a Gold award, and is the kind of place that photographs well and lives up to it: low beams, a log burner and a sheltered garden behind.

The living room has the wood beams, comfortable seating, a television and the log burner, and the kitchen alongside it is stylish and properly equipped, with a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and freezer. Underfloor heating runs through the cottage. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, a television and an en-suite wet room; the second bedroom also has a king-size bed and a television, and there is a dressing room and a family bathroom. A cot and high chair are available, and a welcome pack is waiting on arrival.

To the rear is a fully enclosed, south-facing private garden, sheltered and quiet, with outdoor seating and a barbecue for eating outside in summer. There is parking for two cars. Guests at the cottage also fish free of charge at nearby Stretton Lakes, which is a genuine perk rather than a listing line.

Cottesmore has a pub a short walk away, and there are plenty more good country pubs and dog-friendly places to eat within a few miles. Oakham, the county town of Rutland, is three miles off and has the nearest station. Rutland Water, one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe, is close by for sailing, boating, birdwatching and cycling, and the Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Rutland Farm Park, the Rutland Falconry and Owl Centre, Aqua Park Rutland, the Rutland Vineyard and the county museum are all nearby. Stamford is worth a day, the Bird Fair is held at Rutland Water in July, and the Burghley Horse Trials take place in September.
