About Cider Barrel Cottage

Cider Barrel Cottage sits at Honeyhurst Farm in the heart of the Somerset countryside at Rodney Stoke, midway between Wells and Cheddar, with lovely views over the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, is all on one floor, and holds a Gold award. A babbling brook carrying spring water down from the Mendips runs through the property, and open fields surround the farm, which makes for a genuinely quiet spot apart from the occasional moo or bleat.

The cottage was converted from a single-storey stone farm building that was once used as a cider store, and it has been equipped to a high standard with around 800 square feet of living space, which is generous for four. There is a double bedroom and a twin, a lounge, a large kitchen and dining room, a bathroom with a shower over the bath, an entrance porch, and a small conservatory with French doors opening onto a south-west facing sun terrace.

Wifi and digital television are provided along with a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and freezer, and a cot, high chair, welcome pack, towels and bed linen. The cottage does not take pets.

Outside there is a private enclosed garden, the sun terrace with a charcoal barbecue, table and chairs, sun loungers, the brook running through the grounds and parking for four cars. A pub is within a mile.

Rodney Stoke is well placed: Wells and Cheddar are both close, Glastonbury is not far, and Weston-super-Mare is six miles with its Grand Pier and beach. Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, the Mendip Hills and Burnham on Sea are all within reach, with caving, mountain biking, sailing, golf, walking and birdwatching locally. This part of the West Country is a year-round destination, so the local pubs, cafes and restaurants serve good food at reasonable prices across English, continental and other cuisines. For self-catering there are traditional butchers and bakers in the area, roadside stalls selling fresh local fruit and vegetables including the famous Cheddar Valley strawberries, and Cheddar cheese and scrumpy cider available from shops or direct from local makers.
