About The Old Milking Parlour
The Old Milking Parlour is a converted farm building in the hamlet of Maesbury, on the Mendip Hills in Somerset, around five miles from the small city of Wells. The surrounding land is open farmland and hillside, with views across fields towards the hills, and the setting is quiet and fairly remote. The cottage has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and sleeps up to four, with a king-size bed in the main room, two single beds in the second, and a Z-bed and cot available. It has been given a four-star grading with a gold award, and all accommodation is on a single storey, which includes a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom suited to guests with limited mobility.
The open-plan kitchen and living area has high ceilings with exposed beams and a wood-burning stove, alongside central heating, digital TV, wifi and a selection of board games. The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker with single oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, kettle and toaster, and there is a dining table seating four. A washing machine and tumble dryer are provided, as are bed linen and towels. The main bedroom has its own en-suite; the second bathroom is fitted with a bath, an electric shower, basin and heated towel rail. Outside, a garden and patio with furniture and a barbecue look over the countryside. A cot and high chair can be used, and there is free parking for one car on a private driveway.
The cottage suits couples, small families and walkers, with footpaths from the door and dog-friendly walks within a quarter of an hour's stroll; one dog is welcome. Mendip Golf Course is close by. Wells Cathedral, Wookey Hole Caves, Glastonbury Tor, the Mendip Hills National Landscape and Longleat are all within reach, and the area is dark sky friendly. Local events include the Royal Bath and West Show, Glastonbury Festival and the Somerset Carnivals. The nearest railway station is Castle Cary.
