About All Seasons Cottage Breaks - Flint Cottage

Flint Cottage is a charming single-storey Georgian cottage in the peaceful market town of Saxmundham in Suffolk, four miles from Snape Maltings and eight from Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, holds a four-star Gold rating from Visit England and takes two dogs. Level access runs throughout and all the accommodation and bathroom is on one floor, though the doorways are not wide enough for a wheelchair.

The lounge is cosy, with a comfy sofa, armchairs and a woodburner, which makes it a fine choice for an autumn or winter break. The dining room is light and airy and looks over the courtyard garden, which is the right view at breakfast. The kitchen has quaint period features, including a hand-made pine dresser with period memorabilia, alongside everything you need for modern cooking: plenty of crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans and utensils, a kettle, toaster, coffee maker, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer.

Both bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with crisp cotton bed linen, plenty of pillows, built-in wardrobes, ample drawer space, lamps, an alarm clock and a hairdryer. The master has a five-foot king-size bed with a memory foam mattress, which can be made up as a twin if requested at booking, and the second is a double. The recently refurbished bathroom has a full-length bath with a power shower over and a shaver point, and large soft towels are supplied. Rates include bed linen, towels, electricity and the first basket of logs in winter, and a welcome pack with tea, coffee and fresh milk in the fridge is waiting on arrival.

Outside is a private courtyard garden, sheltered and a real sun trap, made colourful in summer with patio plants and furnished with a table, chairs and a parasol. Parking is free on the street. Saxmundham town centre is only about five hundred yards away, with independent shops including a baker who bakes in the town, an excellent butcher selling traditionally reared Suffolk pork and handmade sausages, a fish stall with fresh fish and crab from Lowestoft, a Waitrose, several cafes, pubs, a dog-friendly pub a short walk away and an award-winning restaurant. A farm shop about a mile out sells local seasonal produce. Aldeburgh, Southwold, RSPB Minsmere, Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle, Orford, Dunwich Heath and Sutton Hoo are all within reach, along with excellent golf courses, and London is about ninety minutes.
