Waterlake Cottage is a single-storey cottage in rural surroundings just outside the village of Orcheston in Wiltshire, only three miles from Stonehenge and its visitor centre. It sleeps four plus a cot, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award, and is set among open fields with countryside views in every direction.
The lounge has comfortable sofas and armchairs, an open fireplace and a flat-screen television. The kitchen and dining area is large and fully fitted with a fridge, freezer and washing machine and a dining table seating six. The master is a double with an en-suite shower room and heated towel rail and plenty of storage; the second bedroom, refurbished to the same standard, has two single beds and good storage, with the family bathroom adjacent holding a bath with an overhead shower, a basin, a WC, a heated towel rail and a heater. Toys, games and puzzles are provided for the family.
Everything is included in the price: all bedding, linen, towels and tea towels, hot and cold water, electricity, heating by night storage and convector heaters, logs, and a cot or cot bed and high chair. There is free wireless internet, a digital HD television, DVD and radio, an iron and a hair dryer, and a welcome tray of refreshments on arrival. Short breaks are available from a minimum of three nights.
The cottage has thought hard about walkers and cyclists: an undercover area to dry wet outdoor clothes, secure lockable weatherproof bike storage, an outside tap to hose down bikes or boots, a range of walking and cycling route sheets, a first aid kit, a puncture repair kit and information on local bike hire. The owners will even get food in for you at cost for your arrival.
Outside is an enclosed south-facing garden with a patio, lawn, shrubs, a barbecue and patio furniture, with two parking bays on site. Shrewton, a mile away, has two pubs serving food, a Co-op, a post office, a butcher, a hairdresser and a garage, and Amesbury, eight miles, has larger supermarkets. A bus runs from the village crossroads to Salisbury, Amesbury and Devizes. Stonehenge is practically on the doorstep, Salisbury with its thirteenth-century cathedral, specialist shops, theatres and museums is an easy trip, Bath is thirty-two miles, and Cranborne Chase and a number of National Trust properties are all within reach.
