White Sands is a single storey clifftop house in a secluded part of Swanage in Dorset, with four bedrooms and panoramic sea views across the bay towards Peveril Point, Ballard Down and the Isle of Wight. It stands just outside the town centre and well away from any main road, which makes it unusually quiet for a property this close to a seaside town, and being all on one floor it suits guests who would rather avoid stairs. A gate from the garden opens directly onto the South West Coast Path, and a sandy beach lies below the house. Up to two dogs are welcome free of charge.
The interior is bright and airy, in calm neutral tones with coastal blue accents. The large open plan living and dining area takes full advantage of the view, with comfortable seating for nine, a television and patio doors opening onto the terrace, and there is a separate dining space for meals together. The kitchen is contemporary and well equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and microwave, and the garage utility holds a washing machine, tumble dryer and a second fridge and freezer. Gas central heating, wifi and an office area with a desk are provided, along with towels and linen, included in weekly and short break bookings.
All four bedrooms are on the ground floor. The main bedroom has a super king bed, an en suite shower room with a bath and shower over, and a small adjoining room ideal as a nursery with space for a cot. There is a further flexible room with zip and link beds that can be made up as a super king or as twins, a twin room and a single, and two folding z beds can be provided on request. The family bathroom has a walk in shower. Outside, the garden is a good size, securely fenced for dogs and made safe from the cliff edge, with a raised patio, furniture, a coal barbecue and those wide sea views. Parking is on the driveway for two cars. A cot without linen, a high chair and other child friendly items are available.
Beach access from the coast path is open, with handrails installed, but it involves a steep flight of steps that can be slippery in wet weather and is used entirely at guests' own risk; access may occasionally be restricted by weather or local authority closures. Swanage itself has a Blue Flag beach, museums, historic buildings and watersports, and the Swanage Steam Railway runs inland to the ruins of Corfe Castle. Durlston Country Park and Nature Reserve is close by with a full programme of family events, and the Jurassic coastline runs north past Old Harry Rocks to the long sands of Studland. Walking, cycling, bird watching, beachcombing and fishing are the natural activities here, and Poole is nineteen miles away. Short breaks are available all year round, which makes this as good a choice for a winter weekend by the sea as for a summer fortnight.
