Bucknowle Lodge is a spacious stone built house in the village of Church Knowle on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, sleeping eight in four bedrooms with three bathrooms and a Gold award. It stands in the Dorset National Landscape, surrounded by rolling countryside, ancient woodland and some of the county's best known landmarks, with views over fields, farmland and its own garden. Corfe Castle is about two miles away, close enough to reach on foot across green countryside, and the coast is a short drive. Two well behaved dogs are welcome, with a charge per dog.
Inside, character features sit alongside comfortable modern living. The main lounge has an inglenook fireplace with an open fire, for which a starter supply of logs is provided in the winter, along with a television and games, and a second reception room has a wood burning stove for a quieter corner. A large conservatory opens to the garden with ample seating for eight and a breakfast table for four, and there is a separate dining room seating eight. The kitchen is large and well equipped with a range electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and a Nespresso machine, and doors open onto a patio with a table for four.
The four bedrooms are a ground floor double with an en suite bathroom with bath and shower over, a ground floor twin, and a double and a twin on the first floor. Bathrooms comprise a ground floor family bathroom with bath and shower over, a ground floor shower room and the en suite. Central heating runs throughout, and wifi, a travel cot, high chair and towels are provided, with linen and towels included in weekly and short break bookings. The garden is secure, with a good sized lawn, a large patio with a big dining table, a swing seat and a charcoal barbecue, making it a pleasant spot to sit after a day out. Off road parking is available, though the driveway to the lodge is an unmade, uneven road, and there are steps down from the paved terrace to the lawn.
Church Knowle is quiet and unspoilt, with The New Inn about a mile away. Corfe Castle village, two miles off, has the dramatic castle ruins, tea rooms and independent shops, and the heritage Swanage Railway runs from there down to the coast. The Purbeck Hills and the Jurassic Coast offer walking and cycling in every direction, with wide coastal views and plenty of wildlife; Kimmeridge is around three miles and Kimmeridge Bay four, with Studland Bay's sandy beaches and nature reserve roughly fifteen minutes by car and Durdle Door a little further west. Horse riding is available locally. Short breaks run all year round, and the house works as well for a winter gathering round the inglenook as for a summer week on the beaches.
