Silvermere is a contemporary four bedroom lakeside house at the heart of the Silverlake estate near Dorchester in Dorset, built on three floors with water, woodland and sky on all sides. The estate is a former quarry turned eco community, its lanes traffic free and its lakes clear, and the house is oriented to make the most of it: a large balcony off the main lounge, a wrap around lawn, and direct lake access by a jetty. The finish is modern and generous rather than showy, and the shared facilities on the estate form a real part of the stay. Please note there are no pets, and hen and stag parties are not permitted under estate rules.
The main lounge has two sofas, a smart TV and an open fire, for which you should bring your own logs, and leads through to the dining area and kitchen. A second ground floor reception room has a sofa bed, a smart TV, games and doors onto the decking. The large kitchen is well equipped with a double oven, electric hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, Nespresso machine, Quooker tap, wine chiller and dishwasher, and the dining area seats ten for a formal meal. There is a utility cupboard on the ground floor with a sink and washing machine. The four bedrooms are a ground floor super king with an en suite shower room, a ground floor room with double bunks, a first floor king, and a top floor room with zip and link beds, made up as a super king by default with air conditioning, an en suite wet room and fine lake views. Four bathrooms serve the house, including a ground floor family bathroom and two further en suites. Central heating, wifi, a travel cot and high chair are provided, with linen and towels included in weekly and short break bookings.
Outside, the covered decking area is large, with outdoor furniture and a gas barbecue, and the lawn runs down to the lake; note that it is screened rather than enclosed, which is worth considering with very young children. A private use hot tub is available to hire at additional cost. Three off road parking spaces are provided, and while the house has no allocated EV charger there are chargers on the estate. Short breaks run all year round.
Estate facilities are the reason many guests book here. Two complimentary passes give access to the Hurricane Spa, with its outdoor heated pool, sauna, roof terrace and well equipped gym, though treatments cost extra. The Hurricane Terrace and Bar serves locally sourced drinks and light bites overlooking Beaumont Lake with no booking needed, and the Hurricane Pop-Up offers breakfast through to pizza nights on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Activity Hub hires out paddleboards, kayaks, bikes and tennis gear and runs children's football coaching, nature trails, pilates and guided reserve walks, with some facilities closed through the winter months. Beyond the estate, a Nisa Local is under a mile away, The Wise Man Inn under three, and the Black Dog Inn at Broadmayne a little further. Dorchester is about fifteen minutes with restaurants, museums, boutiques and trains to London Waterloo, Moreton station is a short drive, and the Jurassic Coast at Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Ringstead Bay, Weymouth and Studland is comfortably within range.
