The Lookout is a contemporary lakeside house on the Silverlake estate near Dorchester in Dorset, with four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a snug with a double sofa bed, arranged over two floors with a roof terrace above. The estate is a former quarry reimagined as a nature reserve and design led retreat, surrounded by clear water lakes, heathland and woodland, and the house makes the most of it: bi-fold doors onto the lakeside, a lawned garden running down to a private jetty, and a second decked sitting area across the water. The style is relaxed but deliberate, and the shared facilities on the estate are a genuine part of what you are booking.
The ground floor holds a large open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room. The kitchen has a built in oven and a combination oven microwave, an electric hob with built in extractor, integrated fridge, freezer and dishwasher, a wine chiller and a large island with a bar. The dining area seats twelve for a formal meal, with two sofas, a chair, speakers and a log burner, and the main lounge has a smart TV, further seating and a second log burner. A snug alongside has a television, an Xbox, children's games and a desk with a PC and printer, plus the sofa bed. There is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and storage, and a ground floor bathroom with a walk in shower. Upstairs are a super king master and a second super king, each with a double en suite and a balcony, a double bedroom, a bunk bedroom and a family bathroom with a large walk in shower and a bath. Underfloor and central heating, air conditioning, wifi, a travel cot, high chair and stair gate are provided, with linen and towels included in weekly and short break bookings.
The roof terrace, reached through a velux window, is the house's party trick: a built in gas barbecue, sink, worktop, fridge, an island with bar stools, a pool table, sun loungers and a garden sofa, with a hot tub available at additional charge. Note that the garden is open and unfenced with direct lake access, which is worth thinking about with very young children. Parking is on a gravelled allocated space for two cars in front of the house, with more on the estate road alongside and an electric car charging point. Hen and stag parties are not permitted under estate rules, and CCTV monitors the grounds only.
Estate facilities, free to guests via passes left with the welcome pack, centre on the Hurricane Spa beside Beaumont Lake: an outdoor heated pool, a roof terrace with loungers and bar, a sauna and a modern gym, all within walking distance. The Hurricane Terrace and Bar serves locally sourced drinks and light snacks with lake views and needs no booking, and the Hurricane Pop-Up offers breakfast through to pizza and dinner on selected days near the family friendly Games Green. The Activity Hub hires out bikes, paddleboards, kayaks and tennis gear for a fee and runs children's football coaching, wildlife trails, pilates and guided nature walks, though it closes over winter. Beyond the gates, the Co-op is two miles off, the Sailor's Return about six, and good village pubs including the Black Dog Inn at Broadmayne and the Wise Man Inn at West Stafford are close. Dorchester is around fifteen minutes with museums, restaurants, shops and trains to London Waterloo; Moreton station is a ten minute taxi ride; and Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Ringstead Bay and Weymouth are all twenty to thirty minutes away.
