Llanlliana House is a beautifully renovated period country house on the north coast of Anglesey near Cemaes Bay, with ten bedrooms and nine bathrooms, sleeping up to twenty. It is rated five stars with a Gold award and stands in a hundred and sixty eight acre private estate within the Anglesey National Landscape, where guests have their own private beach, cliff top coastal walks, views towards St Patrick's Island and access to the most northerly point in Wales. The house is five minutes' walk from the local cove and the Anglesey Coastal Path, and ten minutes' drive from the village of Cemaes Bay.
Every one of the ten bedrooms has been finished individually, seven of them en suite with two further bathrooms, and among them are whirlpool baths, private balconies and four poster beds. Guests tend to report that the debate over who gets the best room is pointless, because they are all good. The dining room is designed for entertaining, with an oak banqueting table and a bar, and makes a fine setting for a milestone anniversary or a significant birthday; in house catering can be arranged, and the country kitchen is well stocked for large groups, with herbs to cut in the garden and a fruit cage to forage in. There is a snug and a comfortable lounge for socialising, and upstairs a games room with a pool table and table football, along with an Xbox, iPod docks, board games and plenty else. Underfloor heating runs through the ground floor and the bathrooms, and wifi, a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, washing machine, tumble dryer, towels, bed linen, a welcome pack, cot, high chair and stairgate are all provided.
Outside, the super size hot tub has panoramic views and keeps children entertained year round, though it is equally suited to a bottle of something cold; guests have described sitting in it in darkness and seeing the Milky Way and shooting stars. The slate terrace gives alfresco dining with a remarkable backdrop, and there is a veranda, balcony, barbecue, sun loungers and a swim spa. Younger children find a sandpit, a play area with climbing frame, slide and swings, a secret slide and ride on tractors, while older ones have giant Jenga, rounders, croquet and badminton on the large lawns. There is a boot room, a laundry room, secure free parking for up to ten cars and an electric car charging point. Up to four dogs are welcome, the house is decorated for Christmas, and short breaks run in low and mid season, with stag, hen, birthday and corporate groups all accepted.
Cemaes Bay is a charming, unspoilt coastal village of whitewashed houses looking out over a sheltered bay, with convenient amenities and sandy beaches ideal for sandcastles, rock pooling and crabbing off the harbour wall. Restaurants and cafes are within five miles. The wider island offers the Anglesey Sea Zoo, the Model Village and Gardens, art galleries and a coast path that runs the whole way round, with Snowdonia across the water for a bigger day out. Coasteering, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, climbing, abseiling, caving, coarse fishing, angling, clay pigeon shooting, croquet, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, golf, hiking, beachcombing and bird watching are all available locally. Holyhead, nineteen miles away, has the station and the Irish ferries.
