The Gothic Mansion is a Grade II listed country house on the edge of Bristol, a Victorian and Edwardian building that was once a convent and has since been restored for use as self-catering holiday accommodation. With 13 bedrooms and seven bathrooms, it can sleep from 13 up to 45 guests, making it suited to extended families and other large parties travelling together. The setting is secluded yet within reach of the city, with the Mendip Hills National Landscape and the Somerset coast both within easy driving distance.
Bedrooms include one super-king, two king-size, nine double and 19 single beds, with a four-poster among them, several en-suite bathrooms and two cots available for infants. Original features such as exposed beams and an open fire remain in place, and there is central heating throughout, along with a snug, a piano and board games. The dining hall seats up to 50, served by a kitchen with an electric range cooker with double oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee maker and washing machine. A games room holds a pool table, snooker table and table football, and there is a jacuzzi, digital TV and wifi. Outside, the enclosed garden gives the house its outlook, and private off-road parking on the driveway and in the car park takes up to 15 cars free of charge. Bed linen and a high chair are provided, children are welcome and up to two dogs may come along.
The house takes groups of all kinds, including birthday celebrations, weddings, corporate gatherings and hen and stag parties, with a minimum stay of two nights and short breaks available. A gastro pub that welcomes dogs is a short walk away, as are dog-friendly walking routes, and further pubs and restaurants are within a mile or so. Bristol itself offers the Aquarium, the Cathedral, Brunel's SS Great Britain and Clifton Suspension Bridge, plus a busy calendar that includes the Balloon Fiesta and Harbour Festival. Bristol Temple Meads is the nearest railway station, and Bath, around 11 miles away, is roughly 20 minutes by train for the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent and the Jane Austen Centre. Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor, Tyntesfield and Weston-super-Mare beach are all within reach, with golf, walking, cycling, riding, caving and watersports locally.
Bed linen is provided for every bed.
