Fuchsia Cottage is a two bedroom barn conversion at Court Farm, a short way outside Bude in North Cornwall, sleeping four and rated four stars with a Gold award. It is a secluded spot, set among the fields of a working farm, and the conversion has kept the original beamed ceilings while bringing the rest up to modern standard. Along with the cottage itself, guests get a private enclosed garden, a hot tub and access to the leisure facilities shared across the Court Farm complex. Dogs are welcome, which makes this a straightforward choice for a family or a couple travelling with the dog.
The living area is open plan, arranged around a wood burning stove with logs provided, with comfortable leather sofas, a television and an oak dining table seating four. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, washing machine and tumble dryer, and wifi and digital television run throughout. The main bedroom has a double bed beneath high beamed ceilings, an intimate space that makes slow mornings easy; the second is a twin with bright, cheerful decoration that works well for children. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, a basin and a heated towel rail, and en suite facilities are available. Towels, bed linen and a welcome pack are all included, and a cot, high chair and stairgate can be provided.
Outdoors, the enclosed garden has a patio, a barbecue and the private hot tub, and it faces the right way for both a morning coffee and an evening sunset. A fire pit sits nearby for toasting marshmallows on warmer nights. The shared facilities at Court Farm include an indoor swimming pool heated to around thirty degrees and open all year round, a games room with a soft play area for younger children and a pool table for older ones, and an outdoor play area. Children can visit the animal field to meet, and sometimes feed, the farm's smaller animals. Spa treatments can be booked with a local therapist at additional cost. Parking is provided for one car, and the site can host weddings and corporate groups.
A pub is within a short walk, and the Bullers Arms in nearby Marhamchurch serves good food with regular live music. Bude, a small Victorian seaside town, is close by with sandy beaches, the sea pool, and a wide choice of cafes, bistros, a tapas bar, a vegan cafe, a micropub and an independent wine shop with a wine bar; there is more to be found at Widemouth Bay, Boscastle and Tintagel. The coast offers surfing, watersports and rockpooling, with walking and cycling routes, horse riding, mountain biking and golf inland. Bodmin Moor and Tintagel Castle make good day trips, and the Eden Project is within driving range. Exeter Central is the nearest main line station, and short breaks are available midweek and at weekends in low and mid season.
