Sycamore House is a holiday farmhouse at Court Farm near Bude in North Cornwall, with three bedrooms, a private enclosed garden and its own hot tub. It is rated four stars with a Gold award. The style is a comfortable mix of old and new: oak floors, a wood burning stove and generous windows that fill the rooms with light, set within a working farm and surrounded by the fields of the North Cornwall countryside. Guests here have the house and garden to themselves and the run of the shared leisure facilities on the wider site, which is a useful combination for a family or a group of friends. Dogs are welcome.
The sitting room is bright and looks out to the garden through glass doors, with comfortable leather sofas arranged around the wood burner and a television. Off it is the kitchen and dining area, where a table seats six; the kitchen is fully fitted in a modern black and white scheme, with a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Wifi and digital television are provided throughout, along with towels, bed linen and a welcome pack. The three bedrooms comprise a main double with countryside views, a second double finished with oak accents, and a twin. The family bathroom has a shower, basin and WC, and en suite facilities are available. A cot, high chair and stairgate can be provided for younger guests.
The private hot tub is the feature guests tend to remember: a six person tub with forty eight jets, sited in the enclosed garden alongside an outdoor dining area and sun loungers, with a barbecue and a fire pit for long summer evenings. The garden is enclosed, which helps with both dogs and small children. Beyond it, Court Farm's shared facilities include an indoor swimming pool heated to around thirty degrees and open all year, a tennis court, and a games room with a soft play area for young children and a pool table for older ones. There is an animal field where children can meet the farm's smaller animals, and spa treatments can be booked with a local therapist at additional cost. Parking is provided for two cars, and stag, hen, birthday and corporate groups and weddings can be accommodated on the site.
The location is rural and secluded but far from remote in practice. A pub lies within a mile, and the village of Marhamchurch has the Bullers Arms, which serves food and hosts regular live music. Bude, a small Victorian seaside town, offers a wide choice of cafes, bistros, pizza, tapas, a micropub and an independent wine bar, with more at Widemouth Bay, Boscastle, Tintagel and Morwenstow. The coast is close, with beaches, Bude Sea Pool and surfing, and Bodmin Moor and Tintagel Castle are both within easy reach. Cycling, walking, horse riding and mountain biking are all available locally. Exeter Central is the nearest main line station, and short breaks are offered midweek and at weekends in low and mid season.
