Lower Northcott Farmhouse is a nine-bedroom Georgian period farmhouse in the heart of a family-run 400-acre estate near Bude in north Cornwall, gazing out across farmland and down a small valley to the coast. It sleeps seventeen with seven bathrooms, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award and takes up to four dogs by arrangement. A leisurely stroll down the private farm lane brings you to Northcott Mouth beach, about half a mile away.
The house is full of individual character and traditional style, and the facilities are extensive. There are two large lounges, both with large flat-screen televisions, Sky and DVD players; one has leather sofas, stripped floors and a garden outlook, and the other, better suited to entertaining, has French doors onto the patio and barbecue area with stunning views down the valley to the Atlantic. A snug can serve either as a private sitting room for the double bedroom above it, reached by its own staircase in the annexe, or as a third lounge. A converted heated cellar holds a pool table and an array of toddler toys, which earns its keep in winter and bad weather. Wifi and a wood-burning stove are provided along with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and freezer, and a cot, high chair and bed linen.
Outside, the large gardens hold two hot tubs and a children's play area with swings, a climbing frame and outdoor toys, with ample room for softball games, plus parking for up to ten cars and small farm animals to meet. Guests also have shared use of the heated indoor swimming pool at the owners' Court Farm four miles away, along with holistic and beauty treatments, yoga and a catering service, all open year-round.
The Preston Gate in the nearby village of Poughill is under a mile's walk and serves good food with regular live music. Bude, a small Victorian seaside town, has a long list of cafes, restaurants and bars, along with an independent wine shop with a wine bar and North Cornwall's first micropub. Widemouth Bay, Boscastle, Tintagel, Morwenstow and Crackington Haven are all within reach, with surfing, walking, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding locally, and Westward Ho! and the Big Sheep a little further. Two smaller properties a few hundred yards away can be booked alongside. Short breaks are not offered from June to September, and the owners take stag groups, birthdays, weddings and reunions.
