Agricola House is a stylish seven-bedroom house in the conservation area of Wirksworth, a historic Derbyshire town two miles south of the Peak District National Park boundary. It sleeps fourteen with five bathrooms, holds a Gold award and takes two dogs. Two features lift it above most group houses: a cinema room, and a wellness sauna.
You walk into a large open-plan kitchen and diner with a vaulted ceiling, granite worktops and a sociable central cooking zone with a hob, double oven, microwave and wine fridge, plus a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washer-dryer, and a bespoke long table seating all the guests; on-site catering can be arranged. The open plan continues into a roomy living area with plenty of seating and a picture window, leading through to the cinema room with additional seating, a large wall-hung television with a soundbar, a games console and Freeview. Wifi runs throughout and the mobile signal is good.
The bedrooms are split between two wings. The left wing has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and the sauna: a room that can be twins or a large super-king with walnut flooring and a unique bedhead, a double with a feature mural of Chatsworth in the mist and bespoke handcrafted furniture, a twin with handmade headboards, and a further double, all looking over the conservation area or the private courtyard. Across the corridor are a bathroom with a large walk-in shower and a family bathroom with a bath, and at the end the wellness sauna room, with a multi-colour light bar, an iPod dock, radio and oil diffuser. The right wing has three bedrooms and three bathrooms: two Nordic-style rooms that can each be set as a super-king or twins, and a large king with a reclaimed bedhead and an en-suite, so every room here has its own bathroom. Every bed is made up with luxury Egyptian cotton.
Outside is a secure courtyard with garden furniture seating fourteen and a barbecue, a lawned area to the front, a bike store, an electric car charging point and parking for six or more cars; level access runs throughout the ground floor with ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms. A cot, high chair and welcome pack are provided.
Wirksworth is a thriving arts town with an annual September festival, and its independent cinema, boutique shops, cafes, restaurants and a real ale bar are all a few minutes' walk from the house, arranged around the market place; the steep terraces and narrow alleyways are worth exploring in a town that was once one of the most important lead mining centres in England. A pub is a short walk away. Matlock is six miles and Cromford has the nearest station. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Carsington Water, the High Peak, Tissington and Monsal trails, the Star Disc, the Ecclesbourne Railway, the Heights of Abraham and Gulliver's Kingdom are all within reach. The owners take hen parties, birthdays, weddings and corporate events.
Additional charges: No additional cleaning fees.
