About Brookside Retreat
Brookside Retreat is a cottage for two close to the heart of the charming village of Two Dales in Derbyshire, roughly midway between Matlock and Chatsworth. It holds a Gold award and takes two dogs, and with the Peak District National Park only about ten minutes' drive away it makes an easy base for a couple's break.
The interior is beautifully presented. The lounge has two comfortable leather sofas, a gas fireplace, Sky television and internet access, and the kitchen is spacious and well equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and freezer for straightforward self-catering. The bedroom has a king-size bed dressed in Egyptian cotton linen, and the bathroom has both a bath and a separate shower. Towels and bed linen are provided.
To the rear is a private enclosed patio and grassy area with outside seating for eating alfresco in summer, with private parking for one car and an electric car charging point.
The seventeenth-century village of Two Dales lies two miles from Matlock, surrounded by woodland, old mill ponds and well-known gritstone outcrops, and the area is full of wildlife. Several trails start within easy reach, suiting experienced walkers, casual ramblers and cyclists alike, and a short drive out of the village takes you straight onto the open moorland of the National Park. Small as it is, the village has a post office, a small supermarket, a garden centre with a coffee shop, a garage and a chemist, and the old village pub, the Plough Inn, is a short walk away and serves fine ales and cider on tap. Matlock, three miles off, has the usual amenities including a Sainsbury's plus plenty of bars and restaurants, and the nearest station. Chatsworth House, the Heights of Abraham, Carsington Water, Masson Mills, Crich Tramway Village, Gulliver's Kingdom, Hardwick Hall, Bolsover Castle and Matlock Farm Park are all within easy reach, and the Chatsworth International Horse Trials are worth timing a visit around.
