The Haven is a five bedroom stone built holiday house in the Derbyshire village of Two Dales, sleeping up to ten and holding a Gold award. It stands just outside the boundary of the Peak District National Park, four miles from Matlock, and has been renovated to a high standard while keeping the solidity of the original building. The two features guests tend to book it for are outdoors: a sheltered wooden hot tub, usable whatever the weather, and a games room with a pool table and a dartboard. Between them they make the house a strong choice for a group that wants somewhere to gather rather than somewhere to sleep between outings.
Inside, the living space is open plan, with a sitting area, a dining table that seats ten and a generously equipped kitchen. The kitchen is unusually well provisioned for a group house: two ovens with grills at eye level, a six burner gas hob, two microwaves, two integrated fridges and two integrated freezers, a dishwasher, a four slice toaster and a washing machine, which matters when ten people want breakfast at once. A fifty inch television with a full Sky package and wireless broadband cover the evenings, and central heating runs throughout. Bedding is Egyptian cotton on memory foam mattresses, with bed linen and bathroom towels provided along with a welcome pack.
The sleeping arrangements are spread across five bedrooms and four bathrooms, with most of the accommodation on the ground floor and one bedroom upstairs. One room has four single beds and an en suite wet room; a twin room has an en suite with a double shower; a king size room sits opposite a family bathroom with a shower over a corner bath; and the upstairs king size room has its own en suite. That mix of singles, twins and kings suits several families travelling together as easily as one large one. Outside, an enclosed garden and patio hold a barbecue and an outdoor dining table for ten, and there is private parking for four to five cars. Children are welcome; pets are not.
Two Dales is a small seventeenth century village surrounded by woodland, old mill ponds and gritstone outcrops, with a post office, small supermarket, garage, chemist, garden centre with coffee shop, and The Plough Inn within a short walk. Matlock, four miles away, covers the rest, including a supermarket, bars and restaurants, and is the nearest railway station. Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Matlock are all around ten minutes away by car, and the open moorland of the Peak District begins just beyond the village. Other days out include the Heights of Abraham, Cromford Mills and Canal, Crich Tramway Village, Dovedale, Hardwick Hall, Carsington Water, Matlock Farm Park, the Peak District Mining Museum and Gulliver's Kingdom. Short breaks are available all year, and stag, hen and birthday groups are accepted.
