Two Owls Lodge stands on forty-eight acres of private woodland on a hillside above the Derwent Valley near Two Dales in Derbyshire, four miles from Matlock. It sleeps three in two bedrooms with two bathrooms, holds a Gold award, and the setting is the first thing you notice: magnificent views of the woods and out across the open rolling valley, with wildlife all around.
The lodge is beautifully styled, with a modern but elegant country feel and generously proportioned, light rooms holding stylish furniture, good antiques and quirky collectables. The sitting room has a large fireplace with a wood burner, two deep cushion-filled sofas, a dining table, Sky television with all the bundles including sports and movie channels, and wifi; a basket of logs and kindling is provided with more available to buy. The country-style kitchen has a fridge, a large separate freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, and is fully equipped down to a cafetiere and champagne glasses. There is a downstairs bathroom and a cloakroom for muddy boots and coats, plus an iron and board, and well-organised tourist information files and books on local attractions.
The main bedroom has a king-size bed with a memory foam mattress, goose down pillows and 500 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, along with coffee-making facilities, a television with DVD and full Sky, a double wardrobe and a hairdryer. A second single room has a dressing table and a separate wardrobe and storage room. The large upstairs bathroom has a big walk-in shower and a large jacuzzi corner bath. A welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided, and the lodge does not take pets.
Outside is a private terrace with garden furniture where you can sit with a coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy the views, with parking adjacent, and woodland paths and trails leading off from the door. The seventeenth-century village of Two Dales, two miles from Matlock, is surrounded by woodland, old mill ponds and gritstone outcrops and is full of wildlife, with several trails within easy reach for walkers and cyclists. Small as it is, the village has a post office, a small supermarket, a garden centre and coffee shop, a garage, a chemist and the Plough Inn for real ale and cider. Matlock has the usual amenities plus bars and restaurants and the nearest station. Chatsworth House, Hardwick Hall, the Heights of Abraham, Cromford Mills, Masson Mills, Crich Tramway Village, Carsington Water, Matlock Farm Park and the Peak District National Park are all close.
