Derwent House is a Grade II listed Georgian residence of around 1753 on Knowleston Place in Matlock, overlooking Knowleston Gardens and the River Derwent beside the park. It sleeps twelve in six bedrooms with five bathrooms across three floors, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award and takes two dogs. Every room has been individually designed.
There are two sitting rooms, which gives a group of twelve somewhere to be together and somewhere to read or listen to music quietly. The kitchen is large and very well equipped, and the dining room is the standout: oak panelled, with a single table seating all twelve. Open fires and a wood-burning stove, exposed beams and wifi run through the house, and a welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided along with a cot and high chair.
Four of the six bedrooms are en-suite, and there is a Victorian-style bathroom with a roll-top bath among the five.
Outside is an enclosed garden. Matlock, a historic market town in the heart of Derbyshire, has varied shops, restaurants, bars and pubs all within walking distance, and the house sits next to Hall Leys Park, the award-winning park in the centre of town. Matlock station is an eight-minute walk with good links to Derby and Nottingham, and East Midlands airport is around twenty-two miles. Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Matlock Farm Park, the Crich Tramway museum and the wider Peak District National Park are all a short drive. Short breaks of three and four nights and full weeks are available all year, with usual changeover days on Monday and Friday and some flexibility if you ask.
