Hopton is a four bedroom cottage at the Darwin Lake holiday village near Matlock in the Derbyshire Peak District, providing a comfortable base for up to eight guests. It has a prime position within the village, a short walk from the edge of the lake, and the interior is spacious, modern and cosy in equal measure. Every bedroom has its own en suite, which is unusual at this size and makes the cottage particularly good for two families sharing or for a group of friends who would rather not negotiate over bathrooms.
To the left of the entrance hallway, which has useful storage, is the open plan kitchen, living and dining area. It wraps around much of the ground floor and is generously sized, an easy place for the whole party to gather, with a television and DVD player. The kitchen is well equipped with a washer dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave. Wifi is provided throughout, and prices are inclusive of linen, towels and electricity.
The bedrooms are all fitted with zip and link beds, so each can be made up as a king size double or as twins, which gives a good deal of flexibility when booking. On the first floor is a spacious room with an en suite bathroom, along with two further zip and link bedrooms sharing a separate shower room. The ground floor bedroom has a large en suite wet room and WC and is suitable for guests with limited mobility, which combined with its level position makes the cottage workable for a group with mixed needs. Parking is available, and children are most welcome.
The surrounding area has something for every age and energy level, from activities and attractions for small children and teenagers to quieter days out for couples and grandparents. Matlock offers cafes, bars and restaurants alongside traditional local pubs, with Ashbourne and Chesterfield a little further, and Bakewell is especially good for browsing, its arcades full of antique, curio and gift shops. The Peak District is full of things to do: steam railways, limestone caverns, outdoor activity centres, pony trekking, museums and stately homes, plus amusement parks such as Alton Towers and Gulliver's Kingdom. Walking and cycling routes begin close to the village, with the dales, moors and gritstone edges of the national park beyond, and Chatsworth, the Heights of Abraham and the Derwent Valley all within a short drive.
