Hassop is a five bedroom cottage on the edge of the Darwin Lake holiday village near Matlock in Derbyshire, in the Peak District, designed to take a group of up to ten guests plus cots. Arranged over three floors, it manages to be spacious and cosy at the same time, which means a party can have company or privacy as the mood takes them. The main living area is reached down the corridor to the left of the entrance hall and enjoys peaceful views over the holiday village and its lake, making it a natural place for everyone to gather at the end of the day.
The open plan kitchen, dining and living area is comfortably furnished and fully equipped. The modern kitchen has a washer dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave, and the lounge has a television and DVD player. On the ground floor is a twin bedroom with a separate shower room and WC. The first floor holds two spacious king size bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room and WC, the other with a television and an en suite bathroom, along with a small single bedroom. On the second floor is a generous family bedroom with a king size bed and a single bed and its own en suite shower room. Wifi is provided, and prices include linen, towels and electricity, which removes the usual arithmetic from a group booking.
The cottage sits within the holiday village, so the setting is quiet and self contained, with parking available and the lake a short walk away. Children are most welcome, and the layout, with bedrooms on all three floors and four bathrooms between them, works particularly well for two or three families travelling together. The ground floor twin with its adjacent shower room is the obvious choice for anyone who would rather not tackle stairs.
Locally there is something for every pace, from activities for small children and teenagers to gentler days out for couples and older guests. Matlock has cafes, bars and restaurants alongside traditional local pubs, with Ashbourne and Chesterfield a little further afield, and Bakewell is particularly well served, its shopping arcades full of antique, curio and gift shops. Peak District attractions are plentiful: steam railways, limestone caverns, outdoor activity centres, pony trekking, museums and stately homes, along with amusement parks including Alton Towers and Gulliver's Kingdom. The national park itself begins just beyond the village, with walking and cycling routes to suit all levels, and the moorland, dales and gritstone edges that make this one of the most popular walking areas in England.
