Wensley is a three bedroom cottage on the perimeter of the Darwin Lake holiday village near Matlock in the Derbyshire Peak District, sleeping six with three bathrooms. It is a large and roomy property for its bedroom count, which makes it a comfortable choice for a family or a group of friends who want space to spread out rather than the minimum that will do. The open plan kitchen, living and dining space is the centre of it, with a modern dining table and two large sofas, and the perimeter position gives a quieter setting on the edge of the village.
The kitchen has striking contemporary finishes with granite worktops, and comes equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave along with a good spread of modern appliances, so cooking here is a pleasure rather than a compromise. The living area has a television and DVD player, and the entrance hall includes storage for boots and bags. Wifi is provided, and prices are inclusive of linen, towels and electricity.
The three bedrooms are arranged over two floors and all have zip and link beds, so each can be made up as a king size double or as twins, confirmed when booking. The ground floor bedroom has an en suite wet room and WC and a television, with easy accessibility for anyone who prefers to avoid stairs. Upstairs is a family bedroom with a king size zip and link bed and a single bed, served by a bathroom, and a further king size room with an en suite shower room and a television. Parking is available at the cottage, and children are most welcome.
Locally there is something for everyone, whether you are travelling with tots, teenagers or grandparents, and whether your idea of a good day is a long walk or a leisurely lunch. Matlock has cafes, bars and restaurants as well as traditional local pubs, with Ashbourne and Chesterfield within reach, and Bakewell's shopping arcades are full of antique, curio and gift shops. The Peak District offers steam railways, limestone caverns, outdoor activity centres, pony trekking, museums and stately homes, with amusement parks including Alton Towers and Gulliver's Kingdom for a family day out. The national park begins just beyond, with walking and cycling for all abilities, and Chatsworth House, the Heights of Abraham and the Derwent Valley mills are all a short drive away.
