About Honeysuckle, dog friendly couples' cottage in South Devon

Honeysuckle is a pretty single-storey detached cottage on the Dittiscombe Estate in the South Hams, with far-reaching views over the Dittiscombe valley. It sleeps two, holds a Gold award and takes one dog and cats. It is a romantic and genuinely peaceful place, and the estate around it is a twenty-acre conservation valley.

Inside there is a woodburner to sit in front of with views over the valley, the wildlife pond and the woodland, along with a king-size bed, central heating, free wifi and digital television, a microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. Everything is on one level and the bathroom has a walk-in shower, which makes the cottage workable for guests who would rather avoid stairs. A welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided, along with a cot and high chair.

Outside is a fully enclosed private patio garden with furniture and a barbecue, plus exclusive access to the twenty-acre valley with its nature trail, which between them give a great deal of space both indoors and out for a cottage of this size. There is a birdwatching area, a stargazing area, a stream in the grounds, an electric car charging point and free parking.

You can walk straight from the door to the beach in about fifty minutes, or pick up a more dramatic section of the South West Coast Path. Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve, a large freshwater lagoon of national importance, is a haven for birds and wildlife, with a nature trail around the reedbeds. The Tower Inn at Slapton is good for dinner in front of the log fire, Torcross three miles away has coastal and Ley-side trails and the memorial tank telling the story of Operation Tiger, and a drive out to Start Point lighthouse gives a fine coastal walk round to Great Mattiscombe Sands with seals and seabirds along the way; the Cricket Inn at Beesands does excellent fresh fish. The estuary towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth and the market towns of Kingsbridge and Totnes are all around twenty to thirty minutes by car, with Kingsbridge six miles and Totnes the nearest station.
