The Lawns is an elegant apartment in a large Georgian house on the Colmer Estate near Modbury in the South Hams, South Devon. It sleeps five in two bedrooms, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award, and comes with free use of the estate's leisure facilities. The apartment sits at the front of the manor house, south-facing, with nobody above or below you and everything on one level.
There is a double and a twin bedroom, a bathroom, a lounge, a dining area seating four and a kitchen with a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and freezer. The views from the south-facing rooms take in the lake and gardens, which is the best thing about the position. Wifi and digital television are provided along with towels and bed linen, and the apartment is allergy friendly; it does not take pets.
The patio outside is gated and for your own use, with a table and chairs, a barbecue and sun beds, leading directly off the lounge. Parking is adjacent and secure, and there is a bike store and a boot room. The apartment is decorated with a tree at Christmas.
The estate facilities are the real draw: an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool heated from May to September, an all-weather tennis court, a lake, a fitness suite, boules and a games room with table tennis and table football. A Victorian walled garden holds a children's area and a log cabin that doubles as a games and meeting space where younger guests can make friends. The grounds are dark-sky friendly with a birdwatching area and views over fields, hills, the lake, valley and woodland. A pub is a short walk away, and Totnes, seven miles off, has the nearest station. Salcombe Sands, Bigbury-on-Sea, Hope Cove, Blackpool Sands, Slapton Sands, Dartmouth Castle, Dartmoor National Park, Buckfast Abbey, Pennywell Farm, Paignton Zoo, Woodlands Family Theme Park and the South West Coast Path are all within range, and the Eden Project makes a long day out. A second cottage on the estate can be taken alongside for extended family.
