About Tubbs Delight
Tubbs Delight is a detached bungalow down a rural lane in the South Devon village of Malborough, with breathtaking countryside views from the rear that have not changed in decades. It sleeps five in three bedrooms, with extra space using the sofa bed, holds a Gold award and takes up to four well-behaved dogs. It is an eco-sustainable house, with cavity wall insulation, a heat recovery system, photovoltaic panels and solar hot water, and the owner is working towards carbon zero.
The lounge is a sun-drenched room with patio doors straight onto the decking and garden, two comfortable sofas one of which is a sofa bed, an armchair, a smart 3D television and DVD player, and an open fireplace for coal or wood that earns its keep in winter; games, books and tourist information are all here too. The kitchen and dining room has a dual fan-assisted oven, ceramic hob, microwave, toaster, fridge with freezer compartment and coffee maker, with a table seating eight. A utility room in the garage holds the freezer, washing machine and dryer, along with buckets and spades. The three bedrooms are a master double with a dressing table and pine wardrobe, a twin with a wardrobe, full-length mirror and a cot, and a bunk room best suited to children with garden and countryside views. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, a shaver point and a mirror with internal lights, and there is a separate toilet.
Outside, the terraced south-facing enclosed garden is a sun trap all year, with a lawn for games, a large umbrella on the patio for shade, alfresco table and chairs for sunset dining and a barbecue; you hear birdsong and see cattle and sheep grazing, and on winter days Dartmoor is clearly visible. The decking off the lounge holds a sunken four-person spa pool, available at an additional cost and subject to conditions, and the stars here are remarkable. This is a Walkers Are Welcome property with a drying area for wet clothes and boots and an outside tap. There is one off-street parking space with plenty more free parking nearby, and level access once inside though there are steps to the property.
Malborough has picturesque Devon charm with many thatched cottages, a post office, two dog-friendly pubs, a small supermarket at the petrol garage, a children's playground and a skate park, all within a few minutes' walk, plus tennis courts at the village hall. A footpath from the door leads down to the coast at Hope Cove, about forty-five minutes on foot, and the South Devon National Landscape has 232 miles of public footpaths. Hope Cove and Thurlestone Sands, both dog-friendly all year, are five minutes by car. Salcombe is three miles with its shops, sailing, diving and fishing, Kingsbridge four with a swimming pool and cinema, and Dartmoor twenty miles north. Eight golf courses lie within twenty miles, and there is sea and coarse fishing, kitesurfing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, canoeing, diving, surfing and sailing locally.
