About The Lodge at Colmer, Kingsbridge

The Lodge at Colmer is a converted stone barn on the Colmer Country Estate near Modbury in the South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in South Devon. It sleeps six in three bedrooms with two bathrooms, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award and takes one dog and cats. What makes it exceptional is the estate around it and the leisure facilities that come free with the stay.

The sitting room has a wood-burning stove, a widescreen television and a DVD player, and the double bedroom has its own television. The kitchen is supplied with all the essentials including a washing machine, fridge-freezer and dishwasher, and there is a large dining table seating eight. Three bedrooms accommodate four adults and two children, with a cot and Z bed available. A welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided.

Outside is a south-facing private enclosed garden, a genuine sun trap and a good thing for families, with a barbecue for informal meals and private parking for three cars.

The estate has twenty-eight acres of private grounds with full access to woodland, a private fishing lake and meadows. Guests use an indoor pool heated all year and a beautiful outdoor pool heated from mid-May to mid-September, a gym, a tennis court with a basketball net, a croquet lawn, boules and table tennis, along with children's play equipment in a walled garden. The setting is peaceful and dark-sky friendly, with a stream in the grounds and a birdwatching area.

The California Country Inn is a stroll up the lane and has been voted a Devon dining pub of the year more than once. The owners can point you towards the best local food producers and restaurants of national repute, or arrange a private professional dinner party at the lodge. Salcombe, Dartmouth, Totnes, Modbury and Dartmoor are all within easy reach, along with Blackpool Sands and the South Devon coast; Plymouth is ten miles, Totnes has the nearest station, and Torquay, Exeter and even the Eden Project are drivable for a day.
