Glenacres sits among the rolling hills of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site at Chideock in Dorset, nestled under Golden Cap and only about a hundred yards from the beach. It sleeps twelve in five bedrooms with four bathrooms, holds a five-star rating with a Gold award and takes one dog. There is a small solar-heated saline outdoor swimming pool, and the gardens run to around three acres.
The house is furnished with carefully accrued pieces and the emphasis is firmly on comfort. All the bedrooms have double-aspect windows and fine views, with luxurious beds, Egyptian cotton linen and blackout shutters, so you can either shut out the morning light or leave them open and listen to the sea. There is a king-size with an en-suite bathroom, a second king-size that can be arranged as a twin on request, a double, a twin and a family room with three double beds.
Three reception rooms, each with a different theme and all adjoining, look out to the pool, garden and sea: one with an open fire, sofas and a large dining table seating twelve, one with a baby grand piano, a television with full Sky and sofas, and a third with sofas, toys, books, games, another Sky television and a football table. The bespoke kitchen has everything a cook could want and a dining table for six, and the conservatory overlooks the pool garden with a small drinks fridge and tea and coffee facilities, cosy in winter and openable with fly screens in summer.
The grounds include a rose garden, a vegetable garden that guests are welcome to use, a walled garden and bluebell woodland, which is rare in this position and a genuine surprise on arrival. There is a barbecue, sun loungers, a trampoline and ample off-road parking, and the site is dark-sky friendly. More than twenty miles of footpaths and bridleways surround the house, all rich in wildlife; you can fossil hunt along the beach, fish for mackerel, and dolphins have been seen passing through. The walk up Golden Cap starts at the property on the South West Coast Path and gives an unrivalled view across Lyme Bay towards Portland. The Anchor Inn at Seatown is a stroll away, and West Dorset has a serious food culture, with the Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, the Riverside at West Bay, the George Inn at Chideock, the Bull at Bridport and River Cottage near Axminster all within range. Bridport, four miles east, has an art and antiques quarter, twice-weekly markets, a cinema and two theatres, West Bay is a busy harbour village, and Lyme Regis is eight miles west. This coastline has starred in Broadchurch, Persuasion and The French Lieutenant's Woman.
