Symondsbury Manor is a Tudor manor house standing quietly behind the parish church in the pretty thatched village of Symondsbury, just outside Bridport in Dorset. It sleeps twenty-two in eleven bedrooms with five bathrooms, holds a Gold award and takes two dogs. The grounds run to about two and a half acres, with the front lawn landscaped and the rear left as natural habitat, and the surrounding hills are among the most attractive scenery in England.
Inside the house keeps its original features, with exposed beams, a wood-burning stove and a piano, and there is a games room with table tennis, a boot room, a wine chiller, board games and a good selection of books. The dining arrangement seats twenty-four, and the whole house is built for a gathering rather than for a couple. Wifi and digital television run throughout, and there is a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and freezer.
The eleven bedrooms include a four-poster and a number with en-suite facilities. A high chair, welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided.
Outside there is a private walled garden with furniture, benches, croquet, boules and a stargazing area, plus a patio, barbecue and free parking for up to ten cars. Marquees can be erected in the garden for weddings and celebrations, and optional catering can be arranged. A dog-friendly pub is a short walk away, and Bridport, fifteen miles off, has excellent independent shops for local food, clothes and gifts, good pubs, cafes and restaurants, market stalls filling the streets every Wednesday and Saturday, an art and antiques quarter with artists' studios and warehouses of vintage furniture, and an outdoor vintage French market on the last Sunday of the month from March to October. The sea is about a mile and a half away, with sandy beaches at West Bay and Lyme Regis and small coves at Eype and Chideock. This stretch is England's first natural World Heritage Site, awarded for its geology and fossils, and the South West Coast Path, Chesil Beach, Charmouth, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Abbotsbury and the Tank Museum are all within range. The owners take hen parties, birthdays, reunions and weddings.
