The Cornmill is a converted seventeenth century windmill in the Yorkshire Wolds near Langtoft in East Yorkshire, with six bedrooms and four bathrooms and a Gold award. It stands in a private rural position with panoramic views over fields, farmland and rolling countryside, and it is unmistakably built for groups: family gatherings, celebrations and milestone birthdays, with enough space and enough to do that nobody is short of something to occupy them. Up to four dogs are welcome, along with cats, and the surroundings are open country in every direction.
The social spaces are the strength of the house. A well equipped country kitchen with an Aga leads to a large dining area with a log burner and seating for twelve, and there are comfortable lounge areas alongside, plus a cosy snug and a library for anyone wanting a quieter corner. The games room is a serious one, with a bar, pool table, air hockey, darts and a gaming area, and there is a Playstation, board games and a Sonos sound system through the house. Bedrooms are spread over two floors and mix super king, king, double and family friendly rooms, with en suite facilities and a rainfall shower among the bathrooms, which makes the house work well for multi generational stays; one bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor. Wifi, digital television, a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, freezer, towels, bed linen and a welcome pack are all provided, along with a cot, high chair and stairgate.
Outside, the private enclosed garden has furniture, sun loungers, football goal posts and a pizza oven, with an outdoor hot tub for unwinding after a day out and outdoor dining looking across the Wolds. The location is dark sky friendly with designated stargazing and bird watching areas, and the nights here are genuinely dark. Ample secure private parking takes up to ten cars, with an electric car charging point. The house is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas, short breaks run all year round, and stag, hen and birthday groups are all accepted.
A dog friendly pub is within a fifteen minute walk, with gastro and country pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops and a supermarket within five miles. Driffield, six miles away, is the nearest town and station. The coast is easily reached: the golden sands of Filey are about fourteen miles off, with Bridlington's north and south beaches and Scarborough, its castle and Sea Life centre a little further. The Yorkshire Wolds Way runs through this landscape, and the North York Moors National Park lies to the north. York, with the Minster, city walls, Jorvik Viking Centre, Castle Museum, National Railway Museum and York Maze, makes an excellent day out, along with Eden Camp, Lightwater Valley, Peasholm Park, Piglets Adventure Farm and the National Centre for Birds of Prey. Locally there is walking, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, pony trekking, sailing, sea fishing, paddle boarding, golf, karting, quad biking, archery, clay pigeon shooting and paintballing.
