Barton Court is a Georgian country house set in six acres of private grounds on the edge of the village of Colwall in Herefordshire, surrounded by glorious countryside beneath the Malvern Hills. It sleeps twenty-seven in eleven bedrooms, most of them en-suite, holds a Gold award and takes four dogs. Peaceful but not isolated, it is built for reunions and milestone occasions.
The house has an unusual origin: Henry Lambert modernised and beautified a much older medieval farmhouse in 1780, adding fine architectural detailing in order to woo the woman who became his wife. It remains gracious and elegant while still being welcoming, and the current owners are only the third family since Lambert to hold it. They have renovated carefully, refreshing the spectacular reception rooms, rearranging rooms for better flow, installing new heating for plentiful hot water and replacing the antiquated oven with modern appliances.
The drawing room is dominated by a fine plaster ceiling, with windows looking south over the fields, and there is a formal dining room seating up to thirty-six and a library. Original features, exposed beams and period decor run through, along with wifi, Sky television, a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, wine chiller and a rainfall shower. A cot, high chair, stairgate, welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided, and there is a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom with grab rails, a shower seat, a walk-in shower and a raised toilet, plus an access ramp and a wheelchair-friendly path.
Outside there are several garden rooms, mostly laid to lawn, all with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, along with a walled garden, a secure private garden with furniture, a barbecue, a fire pit, boules, croquet, an electric car charging point and ample private parking. The site is dark-sky friendly and the house is decorated with a tree at Christmas.
Colwall is a charming village with plenty of amenities between Ledbury and Malvern, and a pub is a short walk away. Colwall has its own station a mile off and Malvern is three miles. The Malvern Hills are on the doorstep for walking, cycling and mountain biking, with canoeing, kayaking, falconry, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding locally. Eastnor Castle, the Brockhampton Estate, Hampton Court Castle, Hereford Cathedral and the Museum of Cider are all nearby, and the Three Counties Show, the Ledbury Poetry Festival and the Great Malvern Food Festival all fall within reach. The house takes weddings, reunions, special celebrations and hen and stag parties.
