About The Clock Tower

The Clock Tower is a one bedroom retreat for two in the Herefordshire countryside at Colwall, a Grade II listed eighteenth century building converted into an unusual and rather romantic hideaway. It holds a Gold award. The position is the thing: close under the Malvern Hills, about three miles from Great Malvern and four from Ledbury, with views over fields, farmland, hills and the ridge itself. Colwall is a charming village with a good spread of amenities, a pub within a short walk and its own station a mile away, so arriving by train is genuinely practical. Two dogs are welcome, and there is a secure enclosed dog run at the property.

Inside, the style is boutique without being fussy: original features and period decoration set against high end finishes. The cosy lounge has a log burner, a television and a dining space for two. The kitchen is well equipped for its size, with a gas hob, two ovens, a microwave, fridge freezer, air fryer, dishwasher, coffee maker, kettle and toaster. The bedroom sits under high beams with an antique sleigh bed and an en suite WC, and there is a ground floor shower room with a WC and a power shower. Wifi, digital television, towels, bed linen and a welcome pack are all provided, along with board games and a selection of books for a wet afternoon. Please note the doorways are not wide enough for wheelchairs, though the property is otherwise described as suitable for less able guests.

The private rear garden is walled, secure and enclosed, with garden furniture and a decked area holding an outdoor hot tub that looks straight out at the Malvern Hills. It is hard to overstate how good that view is at the end of a day's walking. The site is dark sky friendly with a designated stargazing area, so clear nights reward staying outside a while longer. Dedicated free parking is provided on a private driveway for one car, with an electric car charging point. The cottage is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas, short breaks run all year round, and small weddings and birthday celebrations can be accommodated.

The Malvern Hills National Landscape rises immediately behind the village and offers some of the best ridge walking in England, with wide views into both Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Great Malvern, less than five miles away, has cafes, pubs, independent shops and the theatres and concert hall, with more restaurants, shops and a supermarket within five miles. Herefordshire fills out the rest: Hereford Cathedral and its Mappa Mundi, the Museum of Cider, the Black and White House Museum and Village Trail, Eastnor Castle, Hampton Court Castle, Berrington Hall, the Brockhampton Estate, Hergest Croft Gardens, Arthur's Stone, Croome Court and the Wye Valley. Cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, kayaking, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, croquet and bird watching are available nearby, and the local year includes the Three Counties Show, Ledbury Poetry Festival, the Great Malvern Food Festival, Lakefest and the Bromyard and Upton folk festivals.
