Courtyard Cottage sits on the Pudleston Court estate in Herefordshire, about six miles from Leominster, a restored four bedroom cottage sleeping eight with three bathrooms, its own hot tub and access to the estate's private indoor pool. It is rated five stars with a Gold award. The balance here is between rustic character and genuine comfort: old bones, high end interiors, and a position within fifty acres of private parkland with lakes, woodland and landscaped gardens. It suits a family, a group of friends or two couples travelling together equally well, and up to three dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
The lounge has large comfortable sofas, a smart television and a wood burning stove for the evenings. The open plan kitchen and dining area is built for company, with granite worktops, a central island and seating for up to ten, which makes cooking and eating together part of the holiday rather than a chore. A dishwasher, microwave, freezer, coffee maker, washing machine and tumble dryer are all provided, along with a kettle and toaster. The four bedrooms comprise a ground floor main suite with a super king bed and en suite bathroom; a flexible ground floor room with zip and link beds that can be made up as a super king or a twin; an upstairs double with views; and a further upstairs room with zip and link beds, again arranged to suit. Each bedroom has its own television. Underfloor heating, air conditioning, wifi, digital television, towels, bed linen and a welcome pack are all included, and a cot, high chair and stairgate are available.
Outside, the garden is enclosed and secure, which is a relief with children or dogs in tow, with garden furniture, a patio, a barbecue and a six seater hot tub for the end of the day. Guests also have a bookable daily slot at the estate's heated indoor pool, whether for a proper swim or an hour of splashing about with the children. The grounds themselves are worth the time: scenic lakes, woodland walks, quaint bridges, open lawns, a children's play area and small farm animals to meet. Free off road parking for three cars sits adjacent to the cottage, with an electric car charging point. The cottage is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas, and stag, hen and birthday groups are accepted; short breaks run all year round.
Leominster, a historic market town with shops, eateries and pubs, is a short drive away, with the station five miles off. A dog friendly pub lies within five miles and further country pubs, restaurants and cafes within ten. Herefordshire rewards exploration: Berrington Hall, Hampton Court Castle, Stockton Bury Gardens, Ralph Court Gardens, Queenswood Country Park and Arboretum, Newbridge Farm Park and Small Breeds Farm Park are all close, with Ludlow and its castle and food scene, Stokesay Castle and the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre to the north. The Malvern Hills National Landscape, within about thirty minutes' drive, offers wide views and serious walking. Falconry, golf, horse riding, hiking, nature walks, swimming and forest bathing are available nearby, and the local calendar includes the Ludlow Food Festival, the Three Counties Show, Ledbury Poetry Festival, Bromyard Folk Festival and Nozstock.
