Stone Cottage is a refurbished and modernised cottage at Rushall, near Much Marcle in Herefordshire, sleeping two and rated five stars with a Gold award. It keeps its original features while working as a thoroughly modern small house, and the views run out across fields and hills towards the Malvern Hills.
The ground floor is one sociable open-plan space combining a lounge area with a gas fire, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining area seating four. The kitchen has a dishwasher, coffee machine, fridge, freezer and the smaller things that make cooking on holiday worthwhile, like a hand mixer and blender. Underfloor heating runs through and there is free wifi.
Upstairs, an open-plan mezzanine bedroom holds a super-king-size Hypnos bed with a large en-suite bathroom, and the arrangement gives the whole cottage a light, airy feel that a conventional layout of this size would lose.
Outside is a private, fully fenced garden with outdoor seating and sun loungers, positioned for the countryside views, plus parking for two cars and a small outdoor shed with a washer-dryer, which walkers and cyclists will appreciate. Two dogs are welcome. The site is dark-sky friendly, so stargazing is genuinely worthwhile here. Stone Cottage stands next to Hill View House, each with its own private garden, and the two can be booked together or separately. Westons Cider is less than two miles away, there is a pub in the nearby village, and Ledbury is around eight miles off with Hereford under ten. The Malvern Hills and the Wye Valley are both close, with walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horse riding, golf and a good deal more available locally, and Hereford Cathedral, the Museum of Cider and the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo all within reach.
