The Farm Collection is a group of three holiday cottages on a working farm at Appleby Magna in Leicestershire, sleeping twenty two between them and rated four stars with a Gold award. The Granary, The Hayloft and The Barn are arranged around shared outdoor space, and a fourth building, The Refectory, provides a central dining room and farmhouse kitchen where the whole party can eat together. That combination of separate cottages and one shared gathering space is what makes the site work for large groups: everyone has their own front door and quiet corner, but nobody has to eat in shifts.
Accommodation runs to nine bedrooms and nine bathrooms across the collection, with a super king, two kings, a double and fourteen single beds, so the sleeping arrangements can be shaped around families, couples or groups of friends. The en suites are fitted with a WC, washbasin, shower or bath with overhead shower, and a shaver point. Interiors keep original features and exposed beams, with a rustic, cosy feel. The Refectory's dining table seats up to twenty four and the kitchen is set up for self catering at that scale, though catering can be arranged if nobody fancies cooking. Wifi, digital television, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave and freezer are provided, along with a laundry room, towels, bed linen and a welcome pack. Board games are available, and the site is decorated with a tree and decorations at Christmas.
Outside, the shared patio between The Granary and The Hayloft looks over open fields and is the natural place to eat when the weather allows. There is garden furniture, and the surrounding farmland is dark sky friendly, so the evenings are genuinely dark and the stars worth looking at. Parking is free, private and off road with space for up to fifteen cars, which removes one of the usual headaches of a large group booking. Wide doorways help with accessibility, and a cot and high chair are available for the youngest guests. Hen parties, birthday parties, reunions, anniversaries and corporate groups are all accepted. Pets are not permitted. Short breaks are available all year round, midweek and at weekends.
Appleby Magna is a pleasant Leicestershire village with two pubs, a coffee shop and a butcher at the end of the farm drive, one of which is within a fifteen minute walk. It sits midway between Tamworth and Ashby-de-la-Zouch, both with shopping, sports facilities and a castle, and on the edge of the National Forest with its walks, trails and historic houses. The Ashby Canal is close by. Family days out include Twycross Zoo, Conkers, the National Space Centre, Tropical Birdland, Stonehurst Family Farm, Beacon Hill Country Park, Ashby de la Zouch Castle, the 1620s House and Garden and the King Richard III Visitor Centre, with Cadbury World, Drayton Manor, the West Midlands Safari Park and Birmingham's Sea Life Centre within reach. Golf, tennis, swimming, walking and indoor skiing on real snow are all available locally. Ashby-de-la-Zouch is seven miles away; Tamworth is the nearest useful station.
