The Granary is one of three barn conversions at Old Barn Cottages in the hamlet of Great Sturton, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape. It sleeps four in two bedrooms, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award and takes up to four dogs. Glorious country views greet you each morning, out over meadows, woodland and rolling hills.
Inside it is authentic and inviting, with sumptuous furnishings and well-lit rooms. The characterful sitting room has comfortable sofas, a television and double glass doors that fill the room with light and frame the landscape, and its magnificent spiral staircase with an authentic wooden design leads upstairs. The kitchen and diner is fully equipped, seating five, with a coffee maker, microwave and freezer.
The two bedrooms are a romantic beamed double with warm lighting and exposed wooden beams, and a twin under beamed ceilings with exposed brick walls, overlooking the pastures below; the twin has one standard three-foot single and one narrower two-foot-six single. A family bathroom serves them, and a cot, high chair, stairgate, welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided along with wifi.
Outside is an enclosed patio garden with views across the fields, a good place to sit out on a warm evening with the birds for company, plus a balcony, a croquet lawn, a nature trail through the private wood in the grounds and a large gravelled parking area for up to six cars. The site's combined utility and games room holds a washing machine and tumble dryer along with indoor and outdoor games including boules and croquet, books, magazines and films.
The Granary looks good in every season, from summer blossom and spring skies to autumn colour and winter frost. Several country pubs, some offering fine dining, lie within five miles. Horncastle, five miles away, is famous for its antiques and markets, and Louth is worth a day for its charming alleys and artisan food shops; Louth is fifteen miles off. Lincoln, seventeen miles, has the cathedral, the castle and a good choice of independent shops, cafes and pubs. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at Coningsby, a number of stately homes, country parks and wildlife sanctuaries are all nearby, and Skegness, Mablethorpe and Spalding are within easy reach.
