The Stable is the roomiest of the three barn conversions at Old Barn Cottages in Great Sturton, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It sleeps five in three bedrooms, holds a four-star rating with a Gold award and takes up to three dogs and cats. The rooms are warmly decorated and authentic, and the countryside around it is about as restful as England gets.
The open-plan living area combines a lounge with comfortable sofas and a digital television, a cosy dining area seating five and a well-equipped kitchen, with beautiful glass doors to watch the sunset through. The three bedrooms are a double under romantic windows, a twin and a single with a wooden bed and warm lighting, served by a family bathroom. Exposed beams and original features run through, and a cot, high chair, stairgate, welcome pack, towels and bed linen are provided along with wifi, a coffee maker, microwave, freezer and tumble dryer.
Outside is an enclosed patio garden and a barbecue, plus a BBQ lodge, a stargazing area, a birdwatching area, boules, croquet and a nature trail through the woods in the grounds, with parking for five cars and small farm animals on site to meet. The setting is dark-sky friendly, and the barn is decorated with a tree at Christmas.
A pub is within five miles, with several more country-style pubs, some offering fine dining, in the surrounding area. Horncastle, five miles off, holds a market famous for vintage antiques. Louth, twelve miles, has picturesque Georgian and Victorian architecture and artisan food shops, and Lincoln, with its cathedral, castle, restaurants and shops, is a short drive with the nearest station. The Lincolnshire Wolds are on the doorstep for walking, cycling, horse riding and mountain biking, with rare wildlife to spot, and the beaches at Skegness and Mablethorpe, the seal sanctuaries, Tattershall Castle, the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, Gunby Hall, Doddington Hall and Belton House are all within reach. The owners take birthday celebrations and weddings.
