The Barn at Decoy Country Cottages is a four bedroom holiday home in the scenic Boyne Valley of County Meath, sleeping eight and rated four stars with a Gold award. It stands within the Decoy courtyard, a quiet rural setting with views over fields, farmland and garden, just under an hour's drive from Dublin and fifteen minutes from the riverside town of Navan. Charming and spacious, with original features and a traditional feel, it suits families and groups of friends particularly well, not least because of the shared facilities on site. Up to two dogs are welcome.
The main living spaces are on the ground floor with the bedrooms above. There is a spacious, sociable living room with comfortable sofas, a television and a multifuel stove, and a roomy country style kitchen and diner with granite worktops, fitted with an electric hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge freezer, seating six. A downstairs toilet completes the ground floor. Upstairs, bedroom one is a large double sharing an en suite bathroom with bedroom two, a flexible room with zip and link beds that can be made up as a double or a twin; bedroom three is a twin sharing a bathroom with bedroom four, a spacious double. Underfloor heating, wifi, digital television, a coffee maker, towels, bed linen, a welcome pack, a cot, high chair, stairgate and board games are all provided, and level access runs through the ground floor with grab rails by shower and toilet, a shower seat and a walk in shower.
Outside, guests share the landscaped courtyard, the children's playground and the barbecue area. The playground has swings, a trampoline, a basketball net, football goals and giant Jenga, and there is a secure shared garden, a patio and a fire pit. On site there is also a gym, a games room with a pool table, table tennis and table football, and treatment rooms offering spa treatments at additional cost, so a wet afternoon need not be a problem. Small farm animals can be met, the setting is dark sky friendly, and parking for two cars plus an electric car charging point are provided. Short breaks are available all year round, midweek and at weekends, and birthday and corporate groups are accepted.
The surrounding Boyne Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape, home to Newgrange, Knowth, Dowth and the Bru na Boinne visitor centre, with the Hill of Tara, Hill of Slane, Loughcrew Cairns, Monasterboice, Mellifont Abbey, Kells round tower and high crosses, Trim Castle and its heritage trail, Slane Castle and Distillery, Dunsany Castle, Athlumney Castle and Beaulieu House and Gardens all within easy reach; Tayto Park is the obvious choice with children. Dublin, less than an hour away, has Trinity College, Dublin Castle, the Guinness Storehouse, EPIC the Irish Emigration Museum, the National Gallery, St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublinia, the zoo, the Jameson and Teeling distilleries and its famous pubs and restaurants. Locally there is golf, angling, coarse, fly and river fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, karting, archery, paintballing, tennis, swimming, hiking and bird watching, with restaurants, pubs and cafes within ten miles.
