The Loft at Decoy Country Cottages is a three bedroom holiday home in the Boyne Valley in County Meath, sleeping six with every bedroom en suite. It is rated four stars with a Gold award and sits in a peaceful, car free courtyard setting in the County Meath countryside, with views over fields, farmland and the courtyard itself. The riverside town of Navan is a fifteen minute drive away and Dublin about fifty minutes, which makes this an unusually easy base: genuinely rural, yet within reach of the city for a day out. Up to two dogs are welcome.
The accommodation is spread over two floors. The ground floor has a cosy living room with comfortable sofas and a flatscreen satellite television, a spacious well equipped kitchen and diner with granite worktops, a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer, seating six, and a downstairs toilet. Upstairs are a bedroom with a super king size bed and en suite bathroom, a double bedroom with en suite facilities, and a third bedroom with zip and link beds and its own en suite, which can be made up as a super king or as twins if you say which you prefer when booking. Underfloor heating runs throughout, along with a wood burning stove, satellite TV and wifi, and towels, bed linen, a welcome pack, a cot, high chair, stairgate and board games are all provided. Level access runs through the ground floor with grab rails by shower and toilet, a shower seat and a walk in shower.
The shared facilities at Decoy are a substantial part of the appeal. There is a gym, a games room with pool, air hockey, foosball, a giant chalkboard and board games, treatment rooms offering beauty and pampering treatments at additional cost, a children's playground with swings, a trampoline, a basketball net, football goals and giant Jenga, and a barbecue area. The landscaped courtyard is car free, so children can play safely while the adults sit out with a book or a drink, and there is a secure shared garden, a patio and a fire pit. Small farm animals can be met on site, the location is dark sky friendly, and electric vehicle charging points are available along with parking for two cars. Short breaks run all year round, midweek and at weekends.
The Boyne Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the great archaeological landscapes of Europe. Bru na Boinne, Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth hold the finest megalithic art in Europe, and the Hill of Tara, Hill of Slane, Loughcrew Cairns, Monasterboice, Old Mellifont Abbey, Kells with its round tower and high crosses, Trim Castle, Athlumney Castle, Dunsany Castle, Slane Castle and Distillery and Beaulieu House are all close, with Tayto Park for a family day. Dublin, less than an hour away, offers Trinity College, Dublin Castle, the Guinness Storehouse, EPIC, the National Gallery, St Patrick's Cathedral, the Jameson and Teeling distilleries, the zoo and rather a lot of pubs. Golf, angling, coarse, fly and river fishing, kayaking, canoeing, boating, cycling, mountain biking, horse riding, karting, archery, paintballing, tennis, swimming and hiking are all available nearby. Drogheda is fifteen miles off, and Dublin Airport is the nearest useful transport hub.
